Amazon Review.
From the front cover of Hinterlands of Hope to the end, it is an amazing real-life story of a young boy's struggle to survive as a refugee from the Second Sudanese Civil War. Against the backdrop of political and military conflict, you will follow Daniel Yamun Ukang on foot as he sets out across the Sahara desert seeking safety. I found it to be a real page turner and an inspiration. It highlights some of humankind's worst and some of humankind's best. And this book is clearly a best read. I highly recommend it!!!

So I read this book and was blown away. I enjoyed reading Daniel's story and his story of perseverance was amazing. This book describes his journey as a child, he was living in South Sudan when his village was attacked. He was forced to walk for months to a refugee camp in Ethiopia. When war broke out again in Ethiopia he and the other "lost boys" were forced to resume their walk, eventually ending up in Kenya and finally coming to the United States. The later half of the book has a beautiful love story of him and his wife. Overall it is a great book. I would recommend it for young adults and adults alike.
